News - 4th April 2008

Members were delighted to welcome into the Fishguard Cardiac Group, Gwen Halliday from Dinas Cross who will be celebrating her 90th Birthday in July 08, who admitted she did gain enormous benefit from her first work-out, on Friday 4th April 08 with all the members, under the ever watch eyes of the Cardiac professionals and even more so the wonderful social jollifications over a cup tea and biscuits afterwards. Greetings were also given to Lloyd Evans, Penbanc, Fishguard, who was also initiated into the group on the same day.

Mr & Mrs Mike Field of “Danelea” Wolfscastle who recently celebrated their “Ruby” wedding anniversary, presented a fantastic cheque to the Fishguard Cardiac Group collected as donations in lieu of presents during their happy anniversary celebrations. Our sincere congratulations & gratitude to Mike and Pauline for they’re very kind thought and deed. Mike has recently had heart surgery at Morriston Hospital.

Appreciation was given to Irene, our Cardiac Specialist Nurse who organised a magnificent Easter raffle for all the Cardiac Groups in Pembrokeshire and raised considerable funds for each group. Congratulations to the two Fishguard winners who were Iris & Valerie. Big thank-you Irene for all your sterling hard work and effort and indeed the donation of so many prizes.

Naming of the “Teddy Bear” competition whose chosen name was “CLIVE”, was won by R. Blockwell, telephone 01437 890210. Thank you all for your wonderful support in this competition helping to raise so much money towards our aims & objectives in helping Cardiac Patients & they’re carers.

With the merger of Ceredigion, Carmarthenshire & Pembrokeshire NHS Trusts on 1st April 08 and working under the new title of “Hywel Dda NHS Trust”, a Cardiac Rehabilitation Group conference under the guise of “Putting our Hearts into Education” will be held at St Brides Hotel, on Friday 27th June 08, so book your places early to avoid disappointment.

Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Committee members will be travelling to Heronston Hotel, Bridgend on Thursday 1st May 2008, to a conference “Networking together” to Learn values from other Groups and gather valuable information given by guest speakers from the British Heart Foundation and Health professionals, and indeed sharing our group’s experiences with over 30 other Cardiac Groups in Wales, and hopefully put Pembrokeshire Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme on the map.

Barrie Thomas, who formerly was a BBC camera official recently became a Cardiac Patient recruit was delighted to be able to put his professional skills into use taking photographs of members hard at work in they’re work-outs, so hopefully we will be able to recorded some of our activities on our website in the very near future.
