News - 7th November 2008

It was a wonderful turnout of members on Friday 7th November 08 with a prompt start (for some) into exercise mode, with help to our Fitness Instructor Terry Main coming from a Fitness instructor from Caramathen College, his approbation in some new exercises was really enjoyed by all.
Norman Shale currently convalescing and taking a well-earned rest from Rehab: visited the Group to show his admiration and devotion to the Cardiac Rehabilitation programme. It was also rewarding to welcome Gerry Williams back after his recent period of incapacity.

Just to clarify the different Phases, which are mentioned within our weekly reports: Phase 1 - a patient is in Hospital, Phase 2 Immediate post discharge from hospital approx 8weeks after surgery, Phase 3, eight to sixteen weeks of tailored exercise and health education given by a Cardiac Nursing Specialist and Phase 4 is a long term maintenance mainly predominantly exercises but still closely supervised by professional staff. As our numbers are high in both sessions Phase 3 & Phase 4 patients are now given the option to join either morning or afternoon sessions.

Saturday 8th November 08, Eileen Webb one of our Cardiac Patients organised a very successful Autumn Bazaar at Yr-Hen-Ysgol, Dinas with a variety of fund-raising activities within the old school class rooms. Our eldest Cardiac Rehab: member Gwen Halliday was overjoyed to have been asked to take part in the event, manning “Name the Teddy” competition stall, which incidentally was named “Darrel” and was won by Maria from Dinas. Our Cardiac Nurse, Irene and her daughter Rebecca had indeed worked through the small hours of Saturday morning producing some wonderfully baked & decorated confectionary, which literally sold like “hot cakes” and were in great demand by the general public. Well done. Most of the regular Committee members were engaged in various other duties, Bric-a-Brac, “Tombola” Raffles and light Refreshments, to which much appreciation is given to them all for all their sterling efforts. All raffle prizes were claimed on the day. Sincere gratitude to the Committee of Yr-Hen-Ysgol (Old School) in their generosity in allowing our fund-raising event to take place. And for the wonderful support given by the general public, a big “heart” felt thank you to you all.

By kind permission of the “Ship and Anchor” High Street, Fishguard, we will be holding a coffee morning on Thursday 20th November 08, between 10.00 am & 12.00 noon. Tickets are now on sale.

To celebrate our very first birthday as a Group we will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 2nd December 08 at the Fishguard Bay Hotel at 2.00 pm

Our next merry meeting of Terry and his Pacemakers will be on Friday 14th November 08 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre. The morning session starts at 10.00 am and the afternoon session at 1.00 pm.
