Welcome to the

Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group

Established 2007

News - 8th February 2008

It is incredible how everyone has adapted to the new session times for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Group, which has recently been put into place. With only a couple of members absent, due to illnesses, the first session of the Cardiac Rehab was well supported and started on time on Friday 18th February 08.

It is wonderful to report that after a certain period, members are given a reassessment by the Cardiac Specialist Nurse to measure their improvement toward their Coronary problem. In order to make this assessment certain exercises are preformed against the stopwatch in order to calculate some of the benefits gained from the weekly Rehabilitation Programme against the measured output when a patients has first joined the Rehabilitation Programme and according to Irene the results were outstanding. It is surprising what some simple exercises can do to each and every one of us, in particular a little walk each day, when the weather is in our favour.

With yet another three new members to the group hailing from Fishguard, Solva & Velindre, it is evident the Cardiac Surgeons are still gainfully employed. With the ever-increasing membership more members on the phase 4 programme were given permission to indulge on the more elaborate apparatuses within the Fishguard Leisure Centre under the watchful eyes of the keen professionals in charge of the unit.

A list of walks as organised by Steps2Health/ Healthy Heart Community Rehabilitation from 22nd February and up to 25th June 08 have been promulgated and can be seen on our website www.FishguardCRG.co.uk. Or contact Irene Hartup Cardiac Nurse Specialist on 07770326248 for more information. Members of the public are more than welcome to join in on any of the walks; all you have to do is make yourself known to the Walk leaders. All walks are risk assessed and local emergency services are informed in advance that the Walk is taking place.

During the workout cooling down period, the secretary requested members advice and guidance to holding another social get-to-gether, hopefully that will take place within the near future.

Eileen & Shirley were well refreshed after their few days break walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal path.

Our next regular meeting will be at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 15th February 08 with the first session starting at 10.45am and the seconded at 1.00pm.
