Greetings for a Happy, Healthy Heart 2008, from “Terry & his pacemakers”.

Our first meeting of 2008 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre under the watchful eyes of Irene, Terry and Ian. With unfavourable outdoor exercise conditions, caused by the abnormal weather, put pay to any outdoor activities during the festive season, such as walking and cycling to ease off those extra pounds so inevitably increase those already portly figures even more and change the configuration of many others around the middle torso from over indulging during the festive period, Terry’s words of wisdom were repeated over and over again as members arrived to the Rehabilitation meeting, “I’ll soon get you back to shape”. His words soon came to fruition, as he commenced the exercise programme half an hour earlier than usual. Everyone drew benefit from the extra tuition as could be heard from the many moans and groans during the session and the buckets of perspiration being exuded.

All the members of the Fishguard Cardiac Group were sadden to hear Dilwyn Davies of Scleddau, (born on the same date as Santa Claus) had been rushed into Withybush Hospital just after Christmas, and is currently receiving treatment in Ward 11. Best wishes for a speedy recovery back to better health, Dilwyn, were echoed from one and all.

A warm welcome back to the Group was given to Mrs Grover having had medical problems over the past 3 months. Shirley & Eileen submitted they’re apologies not wishing to share the “cold bug” amongst the Group.

Irene announced the date of the first walk of the season, which will take place on Friday 25th January 08, meeting at the Newport, Yacht Club car park 10.00 am for 10.30 start.

With the ever-growing membership of which another two members joined today, wrist & chest monitors are becoming scarce, so from monies donated thus far it was decided to purchase 20 new monitors at a cost of approx £30.00 each. These monitors are worn by each and every member of the group during the exercise programme to give warning of any heart problems, so a real necessity not only to the patient but also a guide to the professionals in their tailored exercise programmes for each individual.

Our next Cardiac Rehabilitation meeting will be on Friday 18th January 08 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre with the first session starting at 12.30 pm and the second at 2.30 pm.
