Welcome to the
Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group Established 2007 |
News - 11th July 2008 With only 165 days to Christmas, which will soon diminish, quite a number of members were noticeably absent from the Rehabilitation assembly on Friday 11th July 08, apparently purchasing those bargains before the “crunch” bites in. However those that did attend really enjoyed the session with Irene extremely busy welcoming 3 new members and completing their detail, which incidentally brings our membership up to 84. Terry our fitness instructor was in fine “hwyl” and due to the reduced numbers was able to elaborate more on the different exercises and the benefits obtained from each of them. Members were delighted to wear the newly acquired wrist & chest heart monitors, which have been purchased for the Group through the generosity of donations as received from various local organisations. Total cost of 20 monitors fell in the region of £500.00. These items are more up to date, in they’re technical specification that can perform a variety of selected tasks and record a mixture of readings all of which are of great importance and benefit to the patient and the professional team. The many Rehabilitation Groups in Pembrokeshire currently share one defibrillator between them, which is ready for use at any organised Rehabilitation meeting and also taken on arranged walks. Our Group is currently looking for funding to support the purchase of a seconded defibrillator to enable members to arrange their own outdoor events (when the weather is favourable) to incite more exercise, without impeding or infringing upon other Rehabilitation Groups’ activities. The cost of such an important piece of life-saving equipment is retailed at approx £1,800.00, therefore our Group is organising fund-raising events within our area to try and raise the capital to purchase one for our unit. The Pembrokeshire Ambulance Service gives training on this appliance free. Any donations will be thankfully received and will be faithfully applied. With Irene’s driving examination just around the corner she was wished every success in her first driving test attempt, which we are positive she will manage in great style and confidence. Good luck Irene. All walks as organised by Steps2Health have now been planned for the first and third Thursdays of each month starting at 10.00 am. Don’t forget to bring a drink (non-alcoholic) with you and wear sensible footwear and some light waterproof clothing in case of inclement weather. Our next merry meeting of “Terry and his pacemakers” will be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 18th July 08, Phase 4 members session starting at 10.00 am and Phase 3 members at 1.00 pm. For more information either contact Terry Grover on 01239 820607 or John Palmer on 01348 872240 or indeed why not visit our website www.FishguardCRG.co.uk as so generously sponsored by ePembs. Albeit fresh fish is expensive to buy why not try “Pilchards in tomato sauce”, which are good for your diet and are enriched with Omega 3, also keep healthy by plenty of exercise. Don’t become another Cardiac statistic, although we would love to see you on occasions purely as a visitor and witness the excellent work created for Cardiac Patients. |
