News - 12th December 2008

Friday 12th December 08 a cold and wet morning, but really gratifying to offer a warm welcome to the deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Fishguard & Goodwick Town Council, to the Rehabilitation Group to witness the various exercises performed by Cardiac Patients during the morning session. Both Councillors were very impressed with the activities both in the fitness studio and in the gymnasium. Councillor Gwilym Price & Richard Davies were expectant of our Cardiac Nursing Specialist to have their blood pressure checked, considering they’re very busy and stressful council schedule, both passing the Heart checks with flying colours.

Norman Shale has officially become one of the Group now having had his “Pace Maker”(hence Terry & his Pacemakers) fitted at Morriston Hospital and is now well on the road to recovery after a traumatic and worrying period for himself and his wife Judith.

Those members attending the Pembroke Dock function at Pater Hall on Wednesday 10th December thoroughly enjoyed the event, with cornucopia supply of savoury and confectionary goodies, bottomless tea and coffee pots, and a tremendous fiesta of entertainment provided by the delightful children’s choir from Manobier C.P. School, an Illusionist, supported by Stuart Maxwell a local vocalist who is the Grandson of a Cardiac Patient in Pembroke Dock. But the real treat came when our Professionals, Irene, Ray Lockyer, Terry Main, Andy & Rachel donned theatre costume and wigs to mime songs from “ABBA”, who proclaimed their stage name The “Re – ABBA’s. On completion of their act received a standing ovation for their brilliant and excellent performance.

Ann Palmer of Stepaside, a friend of Angie & Mike Flude (both who are stalwart members of the Fishguard Cardiac Rehab: Group) has volunteered to partake in a sponsored New Year’s Day swim at Saundersfoot. Our sincere best wishes to you Ann for your courage and assiduous undertaking in particular during these wintry conditions.

Support was also given to the Fishguard & District Round Table “Duck Race” to take place on Boxing Day at Fishguard Lower Town, wishing this fun loving organised body of charity fundraisers every success in they’re event.

Management are also hoping to start a spouse/carer support Group to meet on a monthly basis, more details will be publicised when finalised.

Our next meeting of Terry and his Pacemakers will be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 19th December 08 will be a joint session combining morning and afternoon Groups starting at 10.00 am until 12.00 noon.
