Welcome to the

Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group

News - 18th January 2008

On Friday 18th January, a very wet windy and dismal day but it was so pleasing to welcome so many members to the Cardiac Rehabilitation session, hoping to shed some of their festive weigh, and to generate some body heat to ward off the dismal weather conditions outside and enjoy the camaraderie of each others company at the Fishguard Leisure Centre.

Dilwyn Davies is still in Withybush Hospital, Ward 11 receiving medical treatment. Mary Raymond sustained a nasty fall in her home, causing severe bruising to her face. Both were wished a speedy recovery to better health from the entire group.

Would all Fishguard Cardiac Group members please note that as from the 1st February 08 times for the two Groups session will be changing as follows: -1st Group 10.45 – 1.00pm, and the 2nd Group from 1.30pm – 4.00pm. This will allow more time to discuss any worrying problems and indeed more relaxation time for Phase 3 Group members that have recently undergone surgery, for it is most essential for the patient and Carer to cast aside any anxiety or trepidation that they may have regarding they’re recent traumatic Cardiac event, with advice and guidance given by the Cardiac Specialist Nurse and Fitness Instructor.

It is also so encouraging to see so many members of the Public currently using the cycle/pathway from Fishguard to Scleddau enjoying the benefit of some simple exercise to help maintain a healthy heart and physical fitness. Albeit the pathway was a public nuisance in the construction and many adverse comments were made to it’s making, however it is now proven to be an asset to the local community. Well done to the Fishguard Town & County Councils who are worthy of commendation for the conception and completion of this project, not only for us Cardiac Patients but also for the general Public as a whole.

Another three new members were introduced to the group from the following locations, Newport, Tufton and Fishguard and were wished many happy and enjoyable hours with the group on their road back to better health. It is so “heartening” to note, General Practitioners of Fishguard & Goodwick have recognised the overwhelming benefits acquired from the Rehabilitation Programme in helping Coronary Patients, to a better quality of life, in they’re many recent referrals for Patients to join the Cardiac Rehabilitation Group.

Grateful thanks to Terry Rosser in his donation of a wonderful food hamper for the weekly raffle, which was won by Alun Phillips.

Our next regular meeting on Friday 25th January 08 will be a walk. Meeting place will be the Newport Yacht Club car Park 10.00am for 10.30am. Members of the Public are more than welcome to join us. After the walk to relax those tired legs a freshly brew cup of tea or coffee in the Café.
