News - 25th January 2008

With a cold, brisk South Westerly wind blowing on Friday 25th January 08, members of the Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group, plus members of other Pembrokeshire Groups gathered at the Newport (Pembs) Yacht Club car park, to partake in the first organised walk of the year. Paul Morris was the walk leader assisted by Andrew and Ray. With the tide lapping the footpath at various points along the way and the pathway duly sodden from continual rainfall over the period, one had to tread very gingerly to avoid any embarrassing slips or falls. However, everyone enjoyed the event especially the very warm welcome given by Christine Watts and her catering staff at the Morawelon Café, where a wonderful hot cup of tea/coffee and biscuits were waiting for the Group at the end of the stimulating walk. One-member on the walk, 88 years young (albeit we had 2 members over the age of 80 years) who shall both remain nameless thoroughly enjoyed themselves amongst the newly found friends and support given by the members from the different Groups.

Irene was wish every success, by all present at the walk, in her forthcoming “Driving Theory Test”, which she will be taking in the very near future. Good luck to you Irene from “Terry and all his pace-makers”.

Eileen and Shirley plus they’re faithful guard dog “Charlie” will be taking a well earned break and will endeavour to walk some of the Pembrokeshire Coastal path, to maintain some of they’re exercise programmes and physical fitness efforts during the next couple of weeks, sampling some of the local Hostelries palatable cuisine along the way, hoping the weather will be kind to them.

At our next meeting Vanessa John from PAVS will be coming to visit us to see the excellent work being done at the Fishguard Leisure Centre for Cardiac patients and their carers and hopefully join in on some of the exercises, plus giving advice and guidance on “Small Grants” application.
