News - 25th April 2008

Friday 25th April 08 was a strange day when the weather could not make up its mind what to do. However, members from numerous other Cardiac groups in Pembrokeshire arrived at the Newport Yachting Club car park, in pouring rain, prior to a10.30am walk start around the Newport estuary.

Just before Cllr Paul Morris, walk leader made his address to all walkers of the do’s and don’ts, the sun came out in all its glory as if by a designed cue. The stroll around the estuary, viewing the enormous amount of wonderful bird life and beautiful spring flowers & green vegetation was a tonic in its self, besides the benefits of a most stimulating walk. During the walk it was noted that top layers of protective clothing being removed as the temperature increased, but sadly just before ending the stroll the heavens opened up again, everyone made those last few paces to the Morawelon Café in double quick time, where a wonderful hot cup of beverage was waiting. The café staff coped marvellously with such a sudden influx the many walkers and indeed the visitors that are now descending upon our picturesque County.

During many of the conversations, over refreshments, two visitors from Oswestry, Mr & Mrs Lovell, currently on a respite break, made themselves known to the Walk leader as being Cardiac Patients, who attend a Rehabilitation programme in Cheshire and were amazed at the brilliant work on offer in Pembrokeshire in the organised walks, supported by professional medical staff, to which they will endeavour to encourage their officials to introduce on return to Oswestry.

Members of the general public are more than welcome to join any of the walks organised by Steps2Health, which are totally free of charge (except for the cuppa at the end of the walk). The next interesting walk will be on Monday 12th May 08, meeting at Blackpool Mill at 10.30am, but remember to bring a drink and wear some sensible shoes. A meeting of all Cardiac Rehabilitation Groups, where three representatives from each Group are invited to attend, will take place at the “Fishguard Arms” Haverfordwest on Tuesday 20th May 08. 1.00pm for 1.30pm.

Our Group members would like to thank Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services (PAVS), thro the Media of the County Echo for the wonderful Grant of £545.12, to purchase required items needed in the Group.
