Welcome to the
Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group Established 2007 |
News - 25th July 2008 The secrecy in the planning & preparation of Gwen Halliday’s 90th Birthday came to fruition on Friday 25th July 08. Albeit Gwen’s official Birthday falls on 29th July 08 she was treated just like royalty for the day on reaching such a marvellous mile-stone in her life. However there was doubt if there would be any celebrations as with only five minutes to the start of the Rehabilitation Programme only three members had turned up, and then just like magic everyone turned up all at once. With a special cornucopia of outrageous, but wonderfully prepared confectionary and sandwiches by the ladies of the group, Irene our Cardiac Nursing Specialist agreed that once in 90 years indulging in such merriment would not cause any harm if taken in moderation. Gwen’s face to the surprise party was a picture to see, when the Chairman invested her with a sash, birthday card (signed by all the members of the group) and a gift voucher. Ulrike, a young Lady from Vienna, who is currently on holiday with Norman & Judith Shale in St Dogmaels was warmly welcomed to the jollifications of the day and really enjoyed herself. Another three new members were welcomed into the group and were introduced to the normal processing procedures, which are accustomed to us all when joining. The President & His first Lady Mr & Mrs Berrian Edwards & Chairperson, Ceri Jones of the Dinas Cross Carnival welcomed our team to the playing field on a wonderful, brilliant sunny Saturday 26th July 08, which saw our very first outdoor fund-raising event, using our newly acquired Marquee, offering free British Heart Foundation literature, DVDs and magazines. Our Cardiac Nursing Specialist, Irene Hartup was kept extremely busy in taking waist measurements & weighing numerous members of the general public offering, practical help and advice on how to keep a healthy heart, which was more than appreciated by all in they’re very kind and generous contributions made in the purchase of raffle tickets and the purchasing of merchandise from our “White Elephant” stall. The Mayor of Newport, who voluntary took part in the “Healthy Heart” programme was impressed with the Group’s “Aims & Objectives” invited the Rehabilitation Group stall to the Newport Carnival to be held on Saturday 16th August 08, which was accepted with much gratitude. On behalf of the Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group our deepest appreciation to the organisers of the Dinas Cross Carnival for their kind invitation for us to attend the Carnival and for their tremendous hard work & dedication involved in such an event and indeed the general public for the wonderful support given to our cause, which made our day that much more enjoyable. Thank you. The next organised walk will be on 7th August 08, starting outside the “Wiseman’s Bridge Inn” at 10.00 am (First Thursday in August) don’t forget to bring a drink (non-alcoholic) with you and please wear a sturdy pair of shoes. Our next meeting of “Terry and his Pacemakers” will be on Friday 1st August 08, at the Fishguard Leisure Centre, Phase 4 session starting at 10.00 am and Phase 3 at 1.00 pm.
