News - 26th September 2008

On Friday 26th September 08 in glorious sunshine and temperatures in the high teens, brought a host of Cardiac members to the Fishguard Leisure Centre both for the phase 4 group in the morning and even more members for the phase 3 group in the afternoon. Having had no Rehabilitation Programme sessions for a fortnight there was plenty of social & domestic talk to catch up upon, causing a detrimental effect on getting members motivated into exercise mode. However with a selection of “Golden Oldies” tunes being played, members were activated into their tailored exercise routines under the watchful eyes of Fitness Instructor Terry Main & Cardiac Nursing Specialist Irene Hartup.

Irene was also kept very busy in processing another three Cardiac referrals bringing membership up to 90. Hopefully they will all enjoy the benefits gained from the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme, and will make steady progress to the Phase 4 Group in 8 weeks time.

A request from the Fitness Instructor to purchase more new and exciting, beneficial exercise equipment was met with undisputed approval from all the members, which will be bought from the group’s funds.

Tuesday 23rd September 08 saw a Parliament of Cardiac Members representing all the Rehabilitation Groups in Pembrokeshire, enjoying a fabulous meal at the “Jolly Sailor” Hostelry and with summer weather conditions the official business of the meeting was held outside the Inn, with excellent views across the Cleddau enjoying the moving picture of the estuary’s shipping.

Eliane Scale, Exercise Co-Ordinatoring Officer, Pembrokeshire County Council gave an up to date appraisal toward the future funding of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme in Pembrokeshire, who advised more information would be available after a meeting to held with the Welsh Assembly on 11th December 08.

The next United Pembrokeshire Cardiac Rehabilitation meeting will be held at Llys-y-Fran on Tuesday 25th November 08. Also a social gathering is being organised to be held at Patter Hall Pembroke Dock on Wednesday 10th December 08 with live entertainment.

Ruth a local artist and one of our Cardiac members has designed a fabulous collection of authenticated Christmas cards, which hopefully will go on sale within the near future, raising funds for our Group.

Our next merry meeting of “Terry & his pacemakers” will be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 1st October 08 for Group 4 members. Please note there will not be any Rehabilitation session for Phase 3 group members.
