Welcome to the

Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group

Established 2007

News - 1st May 2009

It was a tremendous turn out of members on Friday 1st May 2009 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre albeit the weather conditions were very damp with heavy rain outside but the warm friendly, jovial atmosphere inside the fitness studio out-weighed the gloomy weather. It was rewarding to welcome Phase 3 members into their first session of Phase 4 activities, having made good progress after their individual Heart Problems, which reflects the excellent work the professional team are achieving for Cardiac Patients.

There was also a buzz of excitement with the Activity respite holiday almost upon us on 11th May – 16th May 09. With the exception of two generous donations from Alderman Barrie Onions & Fishguard & District Round Table, members financed the project themselves. The participants of the organised holiday saw the need for the event way back in August 2008 and by a majority consensus elected Isle of Wight as they’re chosen holiday venue. The whole concept of the holiday was to coincide with the Isle of Wight’s annual walking festive to encourage our members into a healthy out-door physical but enjoyable pursuit. Also an interesting and mystical itinerary for the period stopping at the four stars Shanklin Hotel helped in the promotion of the holiday, which has enticed members from other Rehabilitation Groups within Pembrokeshire to join in the activity, which hopefully will cross pollinate other ideas for future events to benefit Cardiac Patients, recovery, social and general well-being.

Steps2Health walk on Thursday 7th May 09 was held at Blackpool Mill which was well attended. There will be another walk on Thursday 21st May 09 at Haverfordwest meeting at 10.00 am outside the Picton Centre.

Irene our Cardiac Nursing Specialist was once again kept extremely busy in the processing of more new Cardiac Patients, who all seem to be getting younger. As with all chronic disease, Coronary disease has no boundaries for age, creed or profession. Heart disease kills over 200,000 people a year so keep active and have a sensible diet to avoid obesity, diabetes and other circulatory and respiratory problems.

Our next meeting of Terry and his Pacemakers will be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 15th May 09 although those on the Isle of Wight respite holiday have already submitted there apologise for their absence. For more information either contact Terry Grover on 01239 820607 or John Palmer on 01348 872240 or why not visit our website www.FishguardCRG.co.uk as so generously sponsored by ePembs.

Healthy eating – Tip No 4. Most people in the UK are eating too much sugar. We should all be trying to eat foods containing less added sugars, such as sweets, cakes, & biscuits and drinking fewer sugary soft and fizzy drinks. Help us to help you.
