News - 3rd April 2009

It was a tremendous turnout of members on Friday 3rd April 09 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre, albeit the weather conditions were not too bright and temperatures just creeping into double figures.

Irene and Andy our Cardiac Nursing Specialists were kept extremely busy in assessing patient’s progress since having their Cardiac event in Heart failure and Open Heart surgery, which all seemed to have improved and benefited from the Rehabilitation Programme, proving a real credit to our professional team’s sterling efforts.

Wonderful efforts also has come from many of the Cardiac Members in selling so many Grand Draw raffle tickets helped to raise £435.00 for Cardiac requirements. Our grateful thanks to all the local businesses that donated so many magnificent prizes and the very kind and generous support of the general public in this fund-raising event. Also a very special thanks to Sarah Jones, Terry Grover, Iris Grover, Val Ridgeway & Barrie Thomas for their individual wonderful prizes. The actual Draw of 18 prizes, took place at 12.00 noon in the Fishguard Leisure Centre’s conference room with a buffet supplied by Ladies of the Cardiac Group. The secretary welcomed and thanked the Mayor of Fishguard & Goodwick, Cllr David Williams for his precious time within his very busy schedule to officiate the Grand Draw and gave a brief account on the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme and its activities and what the money raised will be used for. On completion of the draw Cllr David Williams offered high praise for the excellent work being carried out by the professional staff and indeed the very supportive role of the many volunteers that help to raise funds for Cardiac Patients. He emphasised the fact having already worked with John Palmer for many years in other well known Local Charitable Organisations gave commendation for his drive, dedication, caring, social initiatives and fund-raising qualities for people that needs support. Cllr Williams stated he only wished the Cardiac Rehabilitation Programme was available when he had Heart Surgery some many years back, and pledged the town councils future support to the Fishguard Cardiac Group and wished every success in other events. All prizes have been claimed, with the exception of the following winners; Alan Evans – 01348 874562, Ken - 01348 873434 & Peter - 01239 820864 to whom the secretary has tried to contact and has had no reply.
