Welcome to the

News - 6th February 2009

Having survived the artic conditions during the week, members faced the biting icy winds on Friday 6th February 09 to attend the Rehabilitation Programme at the Fishguard Leisure Centre. It was so rewarding to see some Carers attending the exercise “work-outs” too, which boosted numbers immensely. Some members had submitted their apologies for their absence so as to support the Welsh Rugby team playing in Scotland on Sunday 8th February 09.

The Health benefits of regular exercise need no introduction but everyone is suited to gym workouts or playing team sports. Walking however can be enjoyed by all ages with your friends or on your own. Cardiac Rehabilitation gives all those attending more confidence to push ahead a little further each and every day, however always check with your doctor before you start any exercise regime. Another safety advisory, when walking alone or even with a dog or small child always tell someone where you are going and let them know when you leave and when you return, and if possible take a mobile phone with you.

Due to the inclement weather our regular committee meeting usually held at the Fishguard Bay Hotel on the first Tuesday of each month, was postponed.

Sarah Jones (Cardiac Patient) is organising a “Fund-Raising Event” purely for the British Heart Foundation on Friday 13th February 09. February is National Heart Month and a chance to take a stand against the UK’s biggest killer. Nothing kills more people than heart and circulatory disease and every year it claims around 200,000 lives. The British Heart Foundation is a Charity dedicated to Heart Health and helping people spend longer with their loved ones. The British Heart Foundation needs all of our help to support its Charity, who relies entirely on donations of time and money. Sarah has requested that everyone wears something RED to the Rehabilitation sessions to reflect their support for the BHF and any donations will be gratefully received. We are hoping everyone attending the three Rehabilitation sessions on Friday 13th February 09 will be wearing something RED. If any members of the general public would like to support the event, please “pop in” to the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 13th February (today) between 0900 am – 4.00 pm wearing something RED and make a small donation to support the BHF.

Our own Grand Draw Raffle tickets will be on sale at our next regular Rehab: meeting to be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 13th February 09, with the first session starting at 09.30 am.
