News - 13th February 2009

Members attendance on Friday 13th February 09 was really outstanding, and for those of you who are superstitious, it proved a tremendous and successful day for Sarah Jones who had organised a fund-raising event for the British Heart Foundation at the Fishguard Leisure Centre. Ninety percent of members attending the event wore something RED to identify their support for the BHF and indeed Sarah’s sterling efforts. Even our Training Instructor & Cardiac Nurse honoured the occasion by wearing red. With many novel ideas of procuring monies the fund-raising coffers soon began to fill. Rebecca our Cardiac Nursing Specialist’s daughter also aided the event by baking some wonderful confectionary, which indeed sold like “Hot cakes”. Our Chairman, Mr Terry Grover was so enthralled with the day he managed to fall off his giant exercise ball, thank goodness without injury to himself just before presenting a small donation to Sarah for the British Heart Foundation on behalf of all the members of the Fishguard Cardiac Group.

At our Group’s last committee meeting held at the Fishguard Bay Hotel on Wednesday 11th February, it was agreed to purchase a deluxe motorized pedal exerciser to assist recovery of Cardiac members with hip & knee problems, which our Cardiac Nurse had recommended would be of immense benefit for these patients.

Best wishes for speedy recoveries were extended to Marian Wixey of Dinas Cross & Alun Phillips of Scleddau.

Congratulations to Mary & Bertie Raymond of Mathry who celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on Saturday 14th February 09.

Member’s monies for the activity respite holiday to the Isle of Wight 11th May – 16th May 09 is now coming in at great leaps and bounds.

Very talented Cardiac patients Alan Griffiths & Val Ridgeway have donated more Grand Draw raffle prizes to the wonderful list of prizes already donated by local businesses, which will be drawn at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 3rd April 09 by the Mayor of Fishguard Cllr David Williams. Raffle tickets are now on sale.

Members were invited to show their baking skills for the forthcoming “Coffee morning” to which there will also be a “Cake Stall” to be held at the Royal Oak, Fishguard on 16th April 09.

Our next meeting of Terry and his Pacemakers will be on Friday 20th February 09 at the Fishguard Leisure Centre with the first session starting at 09.30 am.
