Welcome to the
Fishguard Cardiac Rehabilitation Group Established 2007 |
News - 27th March 2009 With the original saying for the month of March “it comes in like a lion and departs like a lamb” being completely reversed as members arriving on Friday 27th March 09 for their weekly work-outs at the Fishguard Leisure Centre, were totally wind-swept from the gale force winds. It was also breath taking to receive from Ieuan Hughes, a stalwart Cardiac member and rugby fanatic a wonderful donation of £130.00 received as “Royalties” from the Performing Rights Society for Bois-y-Felin, who were a once a local well known group. It can be assured the monies will come to purchase some new “Blood Pressure” monitors, which are desperately needed for our Cardiac group. Thank you Ieuan for your kind thought & deed. Many congratulations to Clive Jackson, of Lowertown Fishguard, another conscious Cardiac patient who celebrated a milestone “Zero” birthday on 31st March 09. Many happy return Clive from all of the Fishguard Cardiac Members and Professionals and here is to the next milestone birthday. During the “cooling down” period our Cardiac Nursing Specialist, Irene assembled the morning Phase 4 Group and Phase 3 Group members together to give advice and guidance on Healthy Living & eating from up to date literature received from the British Heart Foundation and Food Standards Agency. Saturated Fats, Sugar and Salt were emphasised as items to reduce within our diet, but encouragement to eat more oily type fish each week, of course not forgetting the five a day fruit and vegetables was elaborated upon, and above all to have daily regular exercise, which include, walking, swimming, cycling or even dancing, you can include mundane household duties as part of your daily exercise, but not dusting the settee in a fully reclined posture. Exercise you should aim for that gets you slightly out of breath, for 30 minutes or more a day for five days a week at least. Irene continued by explaining Lipids & Cholesterol, which brought concerning frowns upon many a brow. An “Eat Well” tip will be given at the end of this report as advised by Food Standards Agency. Our next regular meeting of Terry and his Pacemakers will be held at the Fishguard Leisure Centre on Friday 3rd April 09, with the first session starting at 0930. At 12.00 noon the Mayor of Fishguard and Goodwick, Cllr David Williams will officiate the “Grand Draw” in the Leisure Centre Conference room. Our most grateful thanks to all the local businesses that donated so many magnificent prizes. For more information either contact Terry Grover on 01239 820607 or John Palmer on 01348 872240 or why not visit our website www.FishguardCRG.co.uk as so generously sponsored by ePembs Tip No 1. – Starchy foods such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta and potatoes are really important part of a healthy diet. Try to choose wholegrain varieties whenever you can. Help us to help you; there is life after Heart failure. |
