Awards For All Wales Cheque Presentation To Fishguard & District Stroke Club
A presentation of a £5,000 cheque took place during a social gathering of Council Dignitaries and Club Members of the Fishguard and District Stroke Club on Friday 24th January 03, at the Ship & Anchor, High Street. A cornucopia buffet sponsored by the Mayor was excellently prepared and displayed by Mrs Aylward.
Mayor of Fishguard, Cllr David Williams was delighted in presenting the cheque to the Fishguard & District Stroke Club Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis, on behalf of "Awards for all Wales". This award was donated from Lottery 'Community Funding' to help meet expenditure of a planned respite for Stroke Members and their Carers in respect to accommodation and transportation costs.
Mr Lewis responded with much gratitude to the Mayor for all his personal support he had given to the Club. Also the support given from local businessmen and charitable organisation in helping to raise funds towards the 'Clubs' respite project. A special token of thanks was given to Mr Tony Crotty of Pembrokeshire County Council for all his help and guidance in making this Award come to fruition.
The Chairman continued by saying, 'it is so sad that there are still so many more people in our District that have suffered this cruel, crippling and devastating complaint Stroke that could benefit from our free Club Membership. Some we appreciate are distressed or embarrassed in their traumatic condition in unlocking their doors of isolation and social exclusion. We can only help, if a friend or relative would make contact with the Club'.
Membership of the Club since it was founded in 1998 has increased from 12 to 42 members. Meetings are normally held by kind permission of Sister Rose, at St Teresa's Convent Hall, Fishguard, every first and third Tuesday of each month.
