On Tuesday 1st June 04 members arrived at St Teresa’s Convent Hall, with fully charge pens and sharpen pencils to enjoy an afternoon of prize “eyes down looking” scenario with the Chairman as the resident caller.

The Chairman gave apologies from Mr & Mrs Vaughan Evans, Mr & Mrs Roger Beckwith, Brian Dickin, Bryn Davies, Doreen Swailes, John Palmer and Judi Chapman.

It was reported that our President, Mr Ben Fenemore was out of hospital and making slow but steady progress to a better health, to which Club members extended their sincere best wishes to him for a full recovery.

Before order for a little bit of decorum, the Chairman gave detail of the recent successful respite holiday at Llandrindod Wells, the relative costs and gave account of how the Grant monies were spent. Letters of appreciation had been received from some Club members towards the enjoyment and total satisfaction of the holiday. Rita, for the seconded time declared that she is definitely stepping down as organiser for future holidays due to age and other commitments. Rita was thanked for all her sterling work and commitment during the period of office as holiday planner & organiser. Albeit not too much funds left in the Club’s coffers, talk was given to next years respite holiday, which under new management of Wendy Bindon, could lend itself to a prescribed tonic as to those of years gone by.

Names were sought of members that would be partaking on the Club’s outing to Café Beca at Efailwen, afternoon Tea on Tuesday 15th June 04.

Names were also request for those interested in going to Aberystwyth Arts Centre, on 17th August 04 to see the show “Singing in the rain”.

Members were reminded of the forthcoming Coffee Morning at the Ship & Anchor, High Street, Fishguard on Thursday 10th June 04, requesting those much needed cakes for the cake stall and fund-raising raffle prizes.

Without further hindrance and pens at the ready, one could detect total concentration, with the sound of pens scratching paper and whispering words of “I’m only waiting for one”, Michael calling numbers, waited anxiously for that intrepid yell of delight from a successful winner. All, except the caller who normally enjoys playing, had much enjoyment. Winners of the afternoon were, Annie, Lillian Rees, Margaret Phillips (Letterston), Michael, Mona, Robert, Virginia and Wendy Thanks to all those members that supplied Tombola and raffle prizes for the afternoon. In the absence of Brian the raffle was conducted by Wendy & Virginia.

Tears were brought to Club Members eyes when the Chairman read a letter of gratitude from Mrs Darlene Phillips, daughter-in-law of Mrs Margaret of Trevine, stating how her Mother-in-Law had once again found that little bit of independence and freedom of being able to visit friends around the village, using the wonderful electric scooter on loan from the Stroke Club. The other 3 electric scooters, as sanctioned by the committee were allocated to Club Members. The Chairman invited any Stroke member to take trial of the electric scooter capabilities and if proved to be of benefit to them submit a request to the committee accordingly.

As already stated our next meeting will be Tea at Café Beca. For more information please contact Michael on 01348 840282 or John on 01348 87240 or indeed visit our web-site www.fishguardstrokeclub.co.uk sponsored by ePembs
