On Tuesday 1st November 05, members of the Fishguard Stroke Club were transported to the Harp Inn Letterston for lunch. With 45 members arriving almost at the same time did create a build-up at the bar area for a short while, but were all managed with courtesy and politeness, before settling down to a mouth watering menu.

During the meal the Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis gave apologies on behalf of the Mayor & Mayoress of Fishguard & Goodwick town Council, who was attending a medical appointment at Withybush Hospital, Virginia Lewis had sustained a sprained ankle. Terry Williams & Mona James were not in good health. Best wishes were extended to them all for speedy recoveries to better health.

With a mountain of donated raffle prizes, our enthusiastic raffle organiser Brian Dickin had no problem in selling raffle tickets even to those with short arms and deep pockets. The Treasurer was well pleased with the realization of the raffle.

A rendering of “Happy Birthday” was sung in harmony to Peggi Evans, Margaret Phillips (Trevine) & in her absence Sue Hosgood

Next year’s programme of events as printed and supplied by ePembs were distributed by the Secretary to every member who were pleasantly surprised at its presentation and variable assortments of events and not knowing the actual geographical location of some of the listed venues added a touch of flavour toward the mystical element of the planned programme for 2006.

Wendy gave further detail of the day-out to Llanelli on Tuesday 15th November 05, informing members the coach starting point will be opposite the Pendre Inn at 10.00am. PVTA pick-up times will be notified to those using the specialized transport. Also, bookings for “Holiday on Ice”, Diamond show on 16th February 2006 were gradually filling, stating there were now only 7 vacancies left for this brilliant show and day out.

Normally the Chairman delivers most of the discernible verbal comment at regular meetings, but for once the wind was taken from his sails when congratulations were given to him and his dear wife Virginia who celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 29th October 2005. Member’s notice was drawn to events that took place within the year 1955 and also memorable historical chronological happenings that took place on 29th October from the year dot, which indeed painted an awesome picture, from the execution of Sir Walter Raleigh for treason in 1618 and the death of Ruth Ellis. After much hilarity & jollification of such a marvellous achievement of 50 years married life a presentation of flowers and a framed photograph of the happy couple was made. Michael responded with much gratitude.

The Secretary reminded members of the forthcoming ‘Prize Bingo’ fund-raising night to be held at the Fishguard Railwaymen’s Club, Fishguard on Thursday 17th November 05. Doors will open at 7.30pm with “eyes down” at 8.00pm. There are some fantastic prizes to be won. Come and join in the fun.

Our next regular meeting will be a “Christmas Shopping Trip” to Llanelli on Tuesday 15th November 05. Coach departure time from the lay-bye opposite the Pendre Inn is 10.00am.
