PVTA drivers Ken & John had an early start on Tuesday 5th April 05, to collect Club members from their homes in Rural isolated locations in North Pembrokeshire for a lunch out at “The Bush Inn” Llandissilio, Clynderwen. However the majority of members caught the Summerdale Coach from Letterston, as so expertly driven by Rodney Kendrick.
Proprietors of The Bush Inn, Margaret and John Williams warmly welcomed Club Members to their Hostelry of which their hospitality was second to none.
Before Grace, Chairman Mr Michael Lewis requested a moments silence to reflect upon the many happy occasions spent with Judi Chapman who died on 22nd March 05. Judi had been a stalwart Club and Committee member for many years and her colourful, lovable & benevolent character will be deeply missed by the Club & numerous other organisations within the Fishguard Area. The Club offers their deepest sympathy to the family.
With a choice of menu the buzz of conversation was joyful to hear and was brought to abatement when piping hot meals were served.
During courses the Chairman updated members on current news.
Tommy Reynolds one of our newest members had been admitted into Withybush Hospital ward 7, with a suspected Stroke. Mona James was still commuting Cardiff to resolve her medical condition. Rita Rowles was not enjoying very good health due to stomach problems. Viv Rowles has had a nasty fall but was just about mobile. Good wishes for speedy recoveries were extended to them all.
Apologies were given for those already mentioned and the following: - Brian & Sylvia Dickin, Joyce & Tony Green, Megan Lawrence, Sue Hosgood & Raymond & Sylvia Young.
A very warm welcome was given to Annie Watkins of Fishguard on becoming a member of the Fishguard Stroke Club and was wished many happy and enjoyable hours, hoping that she would find much pleasure and benefit from the Club’s membership.
Birthday greetings were sung to Sylvia Davies & Annie Percey, both being recorded as over twenty-one.
Congratulations were given to Lillian Rees (our oldest member) of Letterston on becoming a singing star overnight, having sung a ditty on SC4, but felt somewhat uncomfortable in giving a live repeat performance in front of so many Club Members!
Lillian having mistakenly been given the clean tea towels as a raffle prize at our last Club meeting was given first choice from the abundance of raffle prizes, who selected the Fairy Washing Up Liquid to match her oddity. In the absence of our regular raffle fund-raiser, Brian Dickin, duties fell upon Bryn & Michael who even managed to persuade management of the Hostelry to partake and indeed rewarded them with two prizes from the raffle.
Our return journey home was made into a pleasurable mystery tour, courteously of our knowledgeable Coach driver, taking in many scenic views of South Pembrokeshire, which was enjoyed & appreciated by all.
Our next Club meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th April 05 at St Teresa’s Convent Hall, Fishguard, between 1.30 – 3.30pm when Wendy will inform members of the Holiday arrangements etc plus our in house quiz master Mr Bryn Davies, who will conduct the quiz to find Master Brain of the Club.
