With books of reference tucked under the arm and satchels heavy with books slung over the shoulder Club members arrived at St Teresa’s Convent Hall on Tuesday 5th October 04 to partake in the annual quiz to establish Master Brain of the Club. The high winds and heavy showers did deter some of the staunch enthusiasts of high intellect from the competition who much preferred the comforts of their own home than facing the intolerable climatic condition.
The Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis gave apologies from: -
Mr & Mrs Tony Green, Mr & Mrs Vaughan Evans, Mr & Mrs Ivor Evans, Rita Rowles, Robert Warlow, Judi Chapman, Doreen Swailes, Ann Goodman, Margaret Phillips & Mona James.
Mrs Annie Percey gave a brief report on Mona’s health, informing members that the journey to and from Cardiff at least twice a week was very tiring and exhausting for her, but Mona can now see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel and she hoping to be back with Club members before too long. Graham Bindon has been practising Rugby and fractured a bone in his arm, which was his excuse for making his wife, Wendy scribe for him all afternoon. Best wishes were extended to all those in poor health wishing them a speedy recovery.
With pantomime season approaching Michael enquired of those wishing to visit Aberystwyth to see “Robin and Babes in the Wood”. Matinees are held on 15th & 16th January 2005. Preference was shown for Sunday 16th January 05 matinee.
Before Magnus Davies, the resident Quizmaster took to the chair, Members were reminded of the forth-coming “Prize Bingo” to be held at the Fishguard Railwaymen’s Club on Thursday 25th November 04. The Secretary reported there have been some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses. If other organisations are planning a Bingo night, please do not clash on 25th November 04.
There was no need for the phrase, “I have started, so I will finish” as all questions for the quiz were pre-printed on forms for each member. There were three different quizzes hoping that some questions would suit the day. Sadly mystification and puzzlement was reflected on many of the 31 members faces but with a few generous clues some managed to broaden their bilateral thinking and discovered some answers never ever heard of before. Larry Evans was the out-right winner in the “Anniversary Quiz” and in “The events of the 20th century” Brian Williams, Roger Beckwith & Graham Bindon proved worthy winners.
Our customary raffle in the capable hands of Brian Dickin was an easy task to release money from member’s pockets, as once again there was an abundance of wonderful prizes to be won. Thank you to all members who donated raffle prizes.
During proceedings of afternoon tea & biscuits, Mr Ben Fenimore presented prizes to the Quiz winners.
The Secretary announced that from all the hard dedicated work of the Treasurer the Club will hopefully become a registered charity on 14th October 04
A very big thank you to all the Ladies in their dedicated and educated domestic science (Preparation of tea and Washing-up).
