Tuesday 6th January 04 started the first event to the programme for the Fishguard & District Stroke Club members at St Teresa's Convent Hall, to partake in a relaxing afternoon of Prize Bingo. It was very obvious of some of the members that their enjoyment to the Christmas festivities had indeed taken its toll by the change in the configuration of their more now portly torsos.
The Consort Of Fishguard, Councillor David Williams in his very busy schedule of Council duties dropped into the Club to wish Club members a very Happy & Healthy New Year.
The Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis gave apologies from, Kay Richards, Ann Goodman, Gloria Ogden, who was all suffering from the flu bug. He also reported that our newest member William Hancock was admitted into hospital on New Year's Eve with Cardiac problems and Joyce Green was also undergoing treatment in hospital. Best wishes were extended on behalf of the Club members, to them all, for a speedy recovery to a much better health.
Michael reported that Margaret Phillips of Trevine was "was over the moon", enjoying her independence once again, on being able to get about the village visiting her many friends on the new acquired electric scooter on loan from the Club. Husband Bert made Margaret take a test around the recreational area in Trevine before allowing her loose on the busy roads of the village, which she passed with flying colours.
Good news came from the "baby" of the Club, Robert Warlow that he has succeeded in beating off the craving for the nicotine habit. Well-done Robert.
"Eyes Down" brought members chatter to a quieten hush as the Prize Bingo got under way. In the early stages it seemed that only the Chairman knew how to play the game who dominated all the winning calls. However, the "bingo caller" instigated confusion to the members by adding a variation to winning permutations, which did see other members enjoying "a shout".
Once again the raffle prizes were in abundance (Discarded Christmas presents), which proved useful to winning members. Ben Fenemore and Bryn Davies did an excellent job in persuading members to reach in their almost empty pockets after the expense of their festive activities.
Our PVTA Drivers, Ken & John are looking for further accolades in their skills, for Wendy, Lillian and Judi took them under their supervion in the preparation and washing-up duties which were accomplished without breakages.
Our next meeting will be at St Teresa's Convent Hall, on Tuesday 20th January 04, when Josephine Thomas will be our guest speaker for the afternoon on the subject of "Ghosts".
