On Tuesday 6th July 04 the weather as predicted by Radio Pembrokeshire weather forecaster Len Bateman, was true to every detail, glorious sunshine and with a very light breeze, which gently encouraged 32 Stroke members and their carers to participate in the well supported sponsored walk, from the bottom of Gas Works Hill (Parrog car park) across the Parrog to the Ocean Lab for a most welcomed cup of tea, cakes and sandwiches, which were served in a most courteous and friendly manner by the Ocean Lab staff, to which our most sincere gratitude is given.

During the walk comments were made of the beautiful mosaic areas depicting treasured local history and some queried how long had they been there! Perhaps the committee should encourage more walks and adventures out for Club members, so that they are kept up to date and enjoy the local history and improvements as seen by numerous able bodied people. Ice cream was enjoyed before and after the walk, which once again, was a treat for many members. Reminisces of days gone by, of paddling in the sea and picnics on the beach, of how many ferries once were anchored in the bay awaiting their passengers and cargo to Ireland. It seemed just like a cue for the large Stena Europe slipped from her mooring at the jetty and almost filled the entire harbour with her glory and magnitude on her journey to Rosslare, which again added wonderful memories to one and all of how times have changed from loading of cars and cargo by cranes to current Roll-on, roll-off procedures.

During tea the Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis reported Mr Ben Fenemore and Captain Viv Rowles were still not enjoying the best of health. Our sincere best wishes for a speedy recovery were extended to them both. He also gave thanks to Councillor Ann Harries for her attendance on the sponsored walk and all the support work she had given to the Club during her term of office as Mayor of Fishguard & Goodwick. Without question, Ann would suffice her help when and where required and has helped us the committee to successfully open many more doors of potential Club members who had become Stroke victims. Cllr Ann Harries recognises the fact, Stroke is not just an elderly persons problem it can affect the younger generation as well and acknowledged the fact how endearing it was in having so many senior citizen volunteers in organising and helping Stroke victims and their carers, so as to bring a better quality of life to these unfortunate people. A warm welcome was also given to Mr Alyn Vaughan for his sponsorship and support during the walk.

Ken, Hazel and Dorothy were welcomed back into the Club after their extended motorbike holiday. In the temporary absence of JFK, Hazel carried out navigational duties on the PVTA special transport bus.

Wendy and Brian completed the raffle operation in their normal dignified manner managing to raise a broad smile from the Treasurer, Mr Bryn Davies, on its realisation. There always seems to be that odd few pence in the kitty to which nobody owns up to, of having a cheap ticket!

Thanks are given to Mona and Lillian in their support work in tiding up after the event.

Our next regular meeting will be on 20th July 04 where we will be having a BBQ at Rita and Viv’s. For further information please contact Michael on 01348 840282 or John on 01348 872240, or indeed why don’t you visit our website www.fishguardstrokeclub.co.uk sponsored by ePembs.
