Cllr Henry Jones, Fishguard Town & County Councillor greeted members as they arrived on Tuesday 7th June 05 at St Teresa’s Convent hall in glorious sunshine. An informal presentation of a substantial sum of money was made to the Club in memory of the late Mr Winston Jones, who died early this year. Mr Jones had suffered and fought Stroke for the past 16 years. The public may remember Winston Jones as Chief Inspector of Police in the Fishguard area. His son Mr Henry Jones made the presentation to the Club’s Chairman Mr Michael Lewis on behalf of his Sister and himself in recognition of work afforded by the Fishguard Stroke Club for unfortunate Stroke victims within the District. The Chairman, Mr Lewis offered a heart felt thank you, to Cllr Henry Jones for his kind thought and generous donation, in memory of his father.
With the presentation over the Chairman gave apologies on behalf of, Dorothy Beckwith, Mr & Mrs Vaughan Evans, Mr & Mrs Tony Green, Mona James, Lillian Evans, Rita Rowles & Robert Warlow.
Lillian Evans was making good progress with the broken bones in her foot and was hoping to be able to attend the next Club meeting.
Greetings were given to two new members Sue & Stanley Samuel of Fishguard.
A very warm welcome was given to Tommy Reynolds on making such a wonderful recovery after his recent Stroke.
The Chairman advised members of the forthcoming 30th anniversary celebration, which the Haverfordwest Club will be holding on 13th June 05 to which Fishguard members were invited to attend.
An invitation was also read for members to attend the Letterston Lion’s function to be held on 16th July 05.
For those members not able to attend the Annual General Meeting Wendy gave an update and report of and those officers elected to appointments for 2005 - 2006, which was held at The Fishguard Bay Hotel on 19th May 05.
The secretary enquired of those persons wishing to attend “Holiday on Ice” show called ‘Diamonds’ in February 2006. A large proportion of membership gave a positive response.
With an abundance of donated prizes for the afternoon “Tombola” session it was “eyes down looking”, which brought the jovial conversations to decorum. It was palpably obvious a few members luck was well and truly running for them, winning most of the prizes, or perhaps for others not quite sure how to play the game!
Grateful thanks to all the hard working Ladies for their sterling efforts in tea preparation and cleaning up afterwards.
Our next meeting will be tea out at Barn Court on Tuesday 21st June 05. The coach will be leaving Rita’s at 1.45pm. Pick-up times for the PVTA transport will be notified.
