On Tuesday 15th March 05, 35 members arrived at St Teresa’s Convent Hall in dismal weather conditions to be entertained by the Line Dancing Group, known as “The Outlaws”, under the direction of their choreographer Veronica.
Before commencing with the afternoon’s entertainment, the chairman, Mr Michael Lewis requested a moment’s silence to reflect upon the tremendous input, happy memories and generosity given to the Club by the late President Mr Ben Fenemore who had sadly passed away on Sunday 13th March 05. He was held in high esteem in many organisations and will be greatly missed by The Stroke Club Membership. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann & Jason
Apologies were given on behalf of Rita Rowles, Mona James, Dorothy Beckwith, Judi Chapman & Mr & Mrs Vaughan Evans.
Judi Chapman was in Withybush Hospital in Ward 10, undergoing intensive treatment, however her spirits were high and looking forward to coming out within the near future.
Mona James was once again mobile but has suffered another setback through an infection and is again commuting to & from Cardiff. Best wishes for speedy recoveries were extended to them both.
The Chairman gave detail of the presentation of the Big Lottery Fund cheque, which will take place on Wednesday 23rd March 05 at the Royal Oak, Fishguard Square at 2.00pm.
In the temporary absence of Rita, the holiday organiser Wendy informed members of a forthcoming attraction of a Musical Production of “Oliver” at the Aberystwyth Art Centre. Many members submitted their names for the event.
The members warmly welcomed a new member into the club, Mr Tommy Reynolds with a rapturous round of applause, and the Chairman wished him many hours of happiness, pleasure & enjoyment in the Club.
A rendering of “Happy Birthday” was given to celebrate three member’s birthdays, Dorothy Beckwith, Elwyn Evans & John Kingsnorth.
Without any need for introduction “The Outlaws” took to the dance floor in their striking attire of cowboy hats & decorated costumes, who encouraged members to partake in the Line Dancing under the direction of their choreographer Veronica. Much enjoyment and pleasure was witnessed on many members facial expression, particularly with Robert & Brian. During the break tea was served from an abundance of sandwiches and cakes as supplied by numerous Lady members of the Club. Also the raffle took place under the watchful eye of the Treasurer, Mr Bryn Davies who actually mistakenly raffled the clean tea towels, which the ladies were looking for drying the crockery. An auction of an Easter Rabbit was made raising £21 for the Club’s coffers.
Once again the Line Dancers took to the floor to try and reduce their calorie intake gained from the tea and sausage rolls. On their final dance, Club members were invited to make a circle and joining hands and attempting to try and keep in step to the wonderful tune of “Best of Friends”, which was still been heard sung long after “The Outlaws” had departed. Much appreciation to “The Outlaws” for a wonderful afternoons entertainment.
The committee would like to take this opportunity to thank all those members that supplied the sandwiches, cakes and abundance of raffle prizes.
Our next meeting will be on 5th April 05 when we shall be off to “The Bush Inn”. For more information please contact Michael on 01348 840282 or John on 0348 872240 or indeed why not visit our website www.fishguardstrokeclub.co.uk as so generously sponsored by ePembs
