On Tuesday 16th March 04 members were requested to remember the unfortunate people that lost their lives in the Madrid atrocities, by having a moment’s silence and to reflect upon the shear sadness caused to so many families.
The chairman Mr Michael Lewis gave a warm welcome, to Miss Mona James and to Mrs Anne Percy on becoming members to the Club. Michael also gave sincere greetings to Joyce Green who had made such a wonderful recovery after a traumatic medical condition and her long spell in Hospital, which were applauded by all.
Apologies were given on behalf of Virginia Lewis, Ben Fenemore, Brian & Christine Williams and also Rita Rowles who had landed back into this country but suffering from “Jetlag” or perhaps it could have been UK weather syndrome, after enjoying so much sunshine in Madeira.
The Chairman introduced Ms Emma Common and Ms Anne Goodman from Connect, which had volunteered their valuable time and effort to come along to enlighten Club members into the various benefits that could be open to them. Many Members took full advantage of Emma & Anne’s vast knowledge on the subject and are awaiting response to their questions posed. Our sincere gratitude to you both for your advice, guidance and pending outcome to so many questions posed to you both.
Judi Chapman gave an in-depth appraisal of the “Message in the Bottle” as launched by the Lions, which members took full advantage of by requesting the plastic bottles to record their medical details and safely store in their refrigerators. Well done the Lions on such a realistic innovation.
Birthday greetings were sung to Elwyn Evans and to John Kingsnorth whose birthdays fall within the coming week.
Member’s sorted themselves into two teams of six to commence battle in “Boccia Balls”. With rules only known to one, the winners of the afternoon proved to be Lillian Evans and Joyce Green who were both presented with boxes of chocolates by Brian Dickin.
So many ladies helped out with the tea preparation and washing up and in fear of missing just one name out the committee take this opportunity to thank you all for your services rendered.
Once again Brian, Bryn and Michael executed an excellent raffle. Our most grateful thanks to all those that donated so many raffle prizes.
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 6th April 04 at St Teresa’s Convent Hall, when we shall be entertained by Wybert giving us many hilarious stories, so come along and enjoy a full afternoon of pleasure.
