On Tuesday 16th September 03 members arrived at Rita and Viv's house, Min-yr-Afon, Letterston in beautiful warm, sunny weather conditions to enjoy a delightful cream tea under the canopies of large umbrellas scattered amongst the well kept flower gardens of the hosts.
Before tea was served the Chairman Mr Michael Lewis welcomed a new member into the Club, Mrs Margaret Phillips (ex-proprietor of the Slope Inn Porthgain) who now resides in Trevine village. Margaret, well known to many members lost no time in reminiscing the good old days when working at RNAD Trecwn within the laboratory section of the depot.
September seems to be a popular month for birthdays; having already given two greetings to members on the first meeting of the month Michael announced another three congratulations, one to Billy Affley, Robert Warlow and our oldest member Lillian Rees who will achieve her ninety sixth birthday next week. A rendering of happy birthday was sung with gusto, followed by a tremendous round of applause.
Rita working in great pain from a swollen leg did not complain during her personal endurance toward the preparation of the cream tea. She was well supported by numerous ladies who made a mountain of fresh sandwiches and home made baked cakes. The Committee and members offer their sincere gratitude to them all, too many to list in fear of leaving just one person from the honour roll of thanks.
During tea it was announce that the Fishguard and Goodwick Town Council under the guidance of the Mayor, had once again given their support to the Club's aims, by donating £200.00 into the Treasurers coffers. Our most grateful thanks for the very generous donation.
Our next meeting will at St Teresa's Convent Hall on Tuesday 7th October 03 when you will all have to bring your thinking caps with you as we have programmed a Quiz for your afternoon jollification's.
