Excellent weather conditions on Tuesday 20th September 05, enabled 44 members to complete the sponsored walk as postponed from 6th July 05. Assembling at Gary’s Fish-n-Chip restaurant, the Deputy Mayor of Fishguard & Goodwick, Councillor Michael Lloyd gave words of encouragement before giving the “Off”. Councillor Michael Lloyd was delighted to assist in pushing one Lady in her wheelchair. Monies for the sponsored walk have come from all corners of Pembrokeshire & beyond even USA. One Lady member Margaret Phillips from Trevine, herself, severely handicapped by Stroke, managed to collect sponsorship money to almost £500.00 with the aid of her loving husband Bert. Much gratitude to you Margaret and all the other members that managed to raise such a magnificent total of £1, 200. Well done to you all and indeed you wonderful & generous general public of Pembrokeshire that supports our aims & objectives in helping Stroke victims and their Carers.

Starting of lunch at the Fishguard Bay Hotel was slightly delayed; reason being some of the members had forgot to set their alarm clocks. However the Lunch was worth waiting for, indeed fit for Royals and was enjoyed by all. Mr Gareth James, Manager at The Fishguard Bay Hotel was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by his Aunties from America, who were again invited as guests to the Club, at the afternoon’s events.

The Chairman, Michael Lewis welcomed the distinguished guests, Deputy Mayor Councillor Lloyd & the ladies from across the “Big Pond” and thanked them for their support.

Apologies were given on behalf of the following: -

Terry Williams, Eluned Owen, Lillian Rees, Ann Harries, Mona James, Joyce & Tony Green, John Kingsnorth & Alun Vaughan.

Birthday greetings were sung to Robert Warlow, Len Langford, Ann Goodman & in her temporary absence Lillian Rees who this day is celebrating her 98th Birthday.

Deputy Mayor, Cllr Michael Lloyd thanked the Club membership for the pleasure of being able to help in the evolutions of the day, adding emphasis to the important work the Club and its organisers are contributing to the community of Fishguard and its District, for Stroke victims & their carers. Understanding communication and building confidence with the general public was part of the therapeutic measures for Stroke sufferers to aid their recovery, he added what better way than at such delightful social gatherings as seen here today, giving his full support. Finishing on a jovial comment, he suggested the committee should endeavour to make the ride in a wheelchair more comfortable for the patient and the pusher by inflating the tyres more as his wheelchair had flat tyres!

The Secretary announced a very dear friend & outstanding supporter of the Club, Mr Tony Crotty, and an Officer of the Regeneration Unit, Pembrokeshire County Council was departing from his job and moving to pastures new. Our sincere best wishes to you Tony, hoping life will as kind to you as you have been to our Club. Good luck in your new venture.

The Chairman thanked the management and staff of the Fishguard Bay Hotel for their kind & warm hospitality.

Brian our resident raffle organiser managed to raise £78.00 from the numerous raffle prize donations. Once again the ladies from America were lucky in winning prizes.
