In glorious weather conditions on the longest day of the year, 21st June 05, forty members assembled at Min-yr-Afon Letterston to join the Summerdale coach, as driven by Rodney Kendrick, to be transported to Barn Court Tea rooms, Templeton, for afternoon tea. Outreach members had a door-to-door service as provided by volunteers Ken Heyday & John Kingsnorth driving the Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport vehicle.
Mine hosts Anne & David Evans of Barn Court Tea rooms welcomed Club members to their abode with tables literally laden with cornucopia plates of various sandwiches and home made confectionery. The bottomless tea & coffee pots were more than welcomed and enjoyed by all on this very hot summers day. The relaxed atmosphere encouraged visitors to partake in the jollifications the Club members were having, joining in the choral of “happy birthday” as sung to Lillian Evans, Roger Beckwith, Viv Rowles, Brian Williams & Sylvia Dickin.
After tea members enjoyed ice cream on the decked veranda, whilst others strolled through the open gardens, viewing beautiful borders & scenic presentations of afar.
The Chairman on behalf of the following gave apologies: -
Lillian Rees & Evans, Sue & Len Langford, Dorothy & Roger Beckwith, Vaughan & Olivia Evans, Bryn & Sylvia Davies, Ann Watkins & Mona James.
The Chairman also gave a report on Robert Warlow, who has now moved down to the Pembroke Dock area, extending him good luck & best wishes in his new home.
Congratulations to Annie Percey on raising a fantastic amount of money on her sponsored walk form. The secretary reminded members of the sponsored walk to take place on Tuesday 5th July 05 and requested all sponsor forms & monies to be returned on or before this date.
Good news was also heralded that a wedding for two of our members is being planned for May 2006.
Our return journey home was made into a mystery tour, encompassing the most beautiful countryside of South Pembrokeshire, which ended a most stunning day out.
Congratulations were also given to the Haverfordwest Stroke Club on celebrating their 30th anniversary on Monday 13th June 05. A large gathering of dignitaries, invited guests, patients & carers enjoyed an excellent lunch in the Food Hall, Withybush, to mark this wonderful achievement.
Well done to Michael Lewis & Ann Harries in their raffle evolution, almost breaking the Club’s record, as set by Brian Dickin some months ago with £76.00.
As already mentioned our next meeting will be on 5th July 05 when we will be undertaking a sponsored walk from Gary’s Fish-n-Chip Shop, Goodwick to the Fishguard Bay Hotel. Some may laugh that’s not very far, but if you’ve had a Stroke it is a complete marathon. Come and join us. Sponsor forms will be available before, during and after the walk.
