On a seeming Autumn day, with very blustery gale-force winds and hairstyles being blown in every direction, the warmth of the hospitality given by the management and staff at Beggars Reach on Tuesday 21st September 04, was second to none. With tables laid in the newly built Garden Restaurant, member’s eyes were agape at the splendour set before them and the magnificent cuisine prepared. The etiquette of some were well and truly tested as to the correct festive tool to use for the appropriate course served, which brought quite a few smiles to many members faces. However, no matter what, 27 Club members thoroughly enjoyed the day out. Driver, Les Rogers as supplied by Summerdale Coaches, expertly drove the coach, down the very narrow lanes to the venue.
The Chairman, Mr Michael Lewis gave apologies from Mr & Mrs Vaughan Evans, Mr & Mrs Ben Fenimore, Mr & Mrs Elwyn Evans (who were still celebrating their Diamond anniversary), Mr & Mrs Green, Rita, Doreen & Mona. Mrs Annie Percey gave a brief appraisal on Mona’s progress, after her having received a recent kidney transplant.
A warm welcome was given to two new Club members, Sheila and Larry Evans. Both were wished many happy and enjoyable hours with the Fishguard Club.
September being a popular month for birthdays of which three members birthdays fell on the 29th September 04 namely, Len Langford, Ann Goodman and Robert Warlow. Greetings were also given to the Club’s other members whose birthdays occurred during the month, Marjorie Evans, Lillian Rees and Larry Evans. Michael for each Virgo zodiac sign gave his customary citations in turn and a rendering of “Happy Birthday” in the key of “C” was sung to them under his direction.
Wendy Bindon updated members on the progress being made for the respite holiday for May 2005.
Once again with an abundance of wonderful raffle prizes the ticket selling operation fell upon Michael & John in the temporary absence of the regular enforcer, Brian Dickin. Thanks were given to all the members that donated prizes. With members winning two or more prizes some prizes were recycled in a “Dutch Auction” as sanctioned by the Committee, which increased the coffers even further, to the delight of the Treasurer.
The Club’s next meeting will be held at St Teresa’s Convent Hall on Tuesday 5th October 04 between 1.30pm & 3.30pm when the quiz master will be Mr Bryn Davies.
