On Tuesday 14th October 2003 members enjoyed a very successful fund raising event, Fish-N-Chip supper at "Something's Cooking", Letterston, sponsored by Mr Trevor Rands. Our sincere thanks to the management and staff in their very warm welcome and cheerful hospitality given throughout this most enjoyable evening.
Tuesday 21st October 2003 saw another great attendance by Club members at St Teresa's, Convent Hall, to listen to Mr Les Griffiths, guest speaker for the afternoon.
Before inviting the guest speaker to address Club Members, Mr Lewis, Chairman of the Club gave an update on absent members and their well-being. Rita was welcomed back after her vocation in Spain. Tony and Joyce were also welcomed after their brief period of incapacity.
A rendering of Happy Birthday was sung to Tony on achieving a Big Milestone in his life to which he can now travel free on local bus services.
A warm welcome was given to Mr Les Griffiths who was known to many, having worked in numerous vocations within Pembrokeshire during his working life and indeed a very staunch and faithful member of Friends of Withybush hospital and Wolfscatle Senior Citizens Group. Les gave a sensitive and thoughtful address on "Change". An address, which brought smiles of endearment to many, in recalling how chivalry, courtesy and respect had changed in the last few decades. How his unfortunate accident shone a different light on those people who were worse off than him, and how he now sacrifices much of his time and effort in helping others, in his voluntary work, which is well supported by his wife Gwen. With the occasional humorous story Les brought his address to a close with a short poem, which was fitting to us all.
The Chairman thanked Les for sharing his memories of the past with Club members and how close the fact was to reality for us all.
Raffle prizes as donated for the Fish-N-Chip night were drawn. A moan was evident when the First prize went to our very lucky Secretary (again). All other prize winners were notified by telephone.
Our thanks to all the ladies in their entire domestic work for the preparation, serving and clearing up after refreshments.
Thursday 23rd October 2003 saw members assembled at The Ship & Anchor for a well supported, fund raising Coffee Morning, generously donated by Mrs Gwen Aylwood. Our gratitude for their support is also given to Mrs Ann Solomon and all the ladies of the Dwrbach WI.
All raffle prize winners of this event have been notified. May we take this opportunity to thank the Mayor of Fishguard in her contribution and continued support. To all you wonderful people of Fishguard, Goodwick and surrounding districts in all your generosity and indeed all you ladies that baked those wonderful cakes.
Welcoming news during event was given that an anonymous donor had donated another four-wheeled scooter to the Club.
Our next regular meeting will be held at St Teresa's on Tuesday 4th November 2003, for further information please contact Michael on 01348 840282.
