On Tuesday 2nd November 04, 39 Club members assembled at Min-yr-Afron, Letterston to board the Summerdale Coach, as driven by Mr Rodney Kendrick, for an outing to the Salutation Inn, near Newport, Pembs. On this occasion it was so rewarding to see the specialised transport being used by some wheelchair bound members, and indeed enjoying the very warm welcome, hospitality and cuisine as prepared by John Denley and his staff of the Salutation Inn.

Before tucking into the wonderfully prepared lunch the Chairman Mr Michael Lewis gave an update on those members in poor health. Doreen Swailes had fallen and broken her femur and is currently in ward 2A of Whitybush Hospital. Sadly Doreen will be incapacitated for some considerable time. Ann Goodman has been in poor health, but under great stress managed to partake in today’s festivities. Mona James is making slow but steady progress to better health. Judi Chapman is waiting to go into Morriston Hospital to undergo surgery. Michael expressed how nice it was to have the company of Joyce and Tony Green again, since Joyce’s accident. Joyce had fallen and sustained a fracture to her ankle and was managing to get about in her wheelchair, hopefully she will have the plaster removed within the week. Best wishes for a speedy recovery were extended to them all.

Apologies were also given from the following: - Larry & Shelia Evans who were having problems with double glazing, Ann & Ben Fenemore, Sylvia & Raymond Young, Dorothy Beckwith, Sylvia & Brian Dickin and Sue Hosgood.

Wendy Bindon gave an appraisal of venues and daily outings incorporated in next years respite holiday at Plymouth and suggesting possible evening entertainers, (which included members of the management committee) encouraged Len & Sue to make reservations, which has now brought totals up to 39 holiday makers.

With only one birthday in November a rendering of “Happy Birthday” was sung to Sue Hosgood in her absence. One member suggested we all visit West Street on our return journey and to sing outside her business, but due to the horrendous parking along this stretch of road the idea was soon flattened. Happy Birthday Sue from all Club members.

Once again the Secretary reminded members of the forthcoming Prize Bingo to be held at The Railwaymen’s Club, Fishguard, on Thursday 25th November 04, doors opening at 7.00pm and “eyes down” at 8.30pm. Local businessmen have donated some fantastic prizes for this event, so come along, enjoy the fun and laughter of the night and take away these wonderful donated prizes.

In the temporary absence of Brian, the raffle takings broke all records to please our Treasurer, Mr Bryn Davies to almost ecstasy and disbelief. Shaking his head and rubbing his hands one can just imagine the broad smile upon his face. Once again thanks to all those members that donated so many raffle prizes in such quantity and quality, which made the job of selling tickets that much easier for Michael & Bryn.

Our next meeting will be a Christmas Shopping trip to Llanelli. Departure time has been arranged for 10.00am at Min-yr-Afron (Rita’s house). Departure time from Llanelli will depend upon your financial situation, your willpower and pending shopping stress. Guests are invited at a cost of £2.00 per head (if room is available). For more information please contact Michael on 01348 840282 or John on 01348 872240 or indeed visit our website www.fishguardstrokeclub.co.uk as so generously sponsored by ePembs.
