On Friday 30th January 04, Members of the Fishguard Round Table and Committee members of the Stroke Club enjoyed the very kind hospitality of Richard & Jan, at The Ship Inn, Lower Town. The Fishguard & District Knights of the Round Table under the complete control of their Chairman Gerald Thomas presented a substantial Cheque to the Chairman of the Fishguard & District Stroke Club, proceeds of which came about during their sponsored Duck Race, held on Boxing Day in obnoxious weather conditions on the River Gwaun. During the presentation copious bowls of Cawl and plentiful amounts of and rolls, as were so generously donated by the proprietors of ‘The Ship Inn'. Much humour and jollifications were heard coming from the piano end of the Hostelry when some Knights suggested relative “handles”, (Nicknames) to Stroke Club members, of which “John the Pom” was adopted by one member. May the Stroke Club offer their sincere thanks to Richard and Jan of The Ship Inn and all the Fishguard Knights of the Round Table in their kindness and generous donation and for such a most enjoyable evening.
Tuesday 3rd February 04 was an atrocious day for Club members to arrive at St Teresa's Convent Hall for a Beetle Drive. With torrential rain and very strong winds it was thought that membership numbers would be greatly reduced for the afternoon, but we were proved very wrong. Before starting the programmed event, Mr Lewis gave a progress report on Joyce Green who was now out of hospital and was hoping to make the next meeting. Sister Rose was making good progress in her recovery. Ann Goodman was still in the recovery mode after serious respiratory problems. Best wishes were extended to them all.
Apologies were received from Rita, Ben, Doreen, Robert, Vaughan and Olivia
Bryn proposed some modifications of the known rules of “Beetle”; agreement was reached so as to proceed with the afternoon's Beetle Drive. Brian and Judi were very artistic in their insect presentation, but for some, the resemblances were that of an unknown creature. The outright winner was Brian Williams followed closely by Terry Williams. Joyce Morgan became the strongest player, at the very bottom of the league. Thanks to all who donated so many raffle prizes, which pleased our Treasurer and Brian Dickin. Thanks also are given to Kay, Judi, Wendy and Ken in all their domestic activities.
Our next meeting will be on 17th February 04 when we will be at the Harp Inn, Letterston. For further information please contact Michael on 01348 840282 or John on 01348 872240, or visit our website www.fishguardstrokeclub.co.uk sponsored by ePembs.
Post meeting. One of our lady members reported she had lost her dentures and offered a reward for their return. We are so happy to inform all, that the teeth have now been found which were in a pile of laundry, placed in the airing cupboard. Margaret would like to thank everyone that showed concern over her expensive and embarrassing loss.
