On Tuesday 6th May 03, with the sun high over the yard arm, as an "old salt" would say, 24 members of the Club arrived in high spirits at St Teresa's Convent Hall to take onboard the final joining instruction and itinerary for the planned respite holiday at Midsomer Norton, commencing Sunday 11th May 03 with Rita at the helm.
Before getting underway, Michael Lewis gave an update on absent members. Lillian Rees was now at home progressing well. Charlie Artis had been transferred to South Pembs Hospital, but immediately conveyed back to Withybush due to medical complications.
Doreen was having an eye test for suitable glasses to try and read the combination digits on Stans' wall safe! It was so rewarding to see Virginia mobile again with the aid of walking sticks after her recent operation on her knee. Tony and Joyce have well and truly settled into their new abode at Carmarthen. Birthday greetings were extended to Ben in his temporary absence (an apology had been received from him).
Rita informed members of respective "pick-up points" and times, firming up insurance and other necessary detail, followed by a full comprehensive and carefully planned itinerary for the respite holiday. The tour will include visits to, The Fleet-Air-Arm Museum at Yeovilton, Bath, and Wells and by request the town of Street. Bristol Lions and Rotary Club members have volunteered to give assistance and support in wheelchair pushing during the period, to whom we are extremely grateful.
To complete the afternoon's programme, a competition in quoits was devised, with rules known only to one! The heralded winner was the "Baby" of the Club, Robert Warlow and runner-up was Tony Green.
Once again our Treasurer was delighted in the raffle realisation, thanks to all those kind persons that donated prizes and to Ken, Michael and Bryn who organised the selling and folding of tickets.
Thanks are also given to Kay and Lillian in their sterling efforts in the preparation and clearance of tea operations.
We will be holding our annual Coffee Morning, by courtesy and generosity of Mrs Aylward at the Ship & Anchor on Thursday 22nd May 03 between 10.00am - 12.00 cost of ticket are 50p each. Come in your crowds, you will be most welcomed.
