WOW, HEAT WAVE RECORD, WHAT A DAY TO HAVE BBQ!
Monday 4th August saw some of the Committee members in their Bermuda shorts, sombrero hats, carnival shirts and flip-flops at Min-yr-Afon, Letterston erecting the Club's Marquee for Club members to enjoy their annual BBQ at Rita and Viv's. Rita was heavily involved with food preparation, which looked enough to feed the whole of Pembrokeshire. The amount of Sherry that was poured into the trifle left many drooling thirsty mouths agape, to say the least, with numerous volunteers to test and prove the pudding but no such luck.
Tuesday 5th August 03 saw the final touches put to the culinary skills of presentation by Rita, Sue, Sylvia, Lillian, and Ann. The kitchen was strictly out of bounds for the men folk all wanting to sample the delicious goodies on the dessert trolley.
Viv stoked-up the two BBQs. The Treasurer enquired, (from a distance) if the flames of the two cookers should be so high to torch the overhead canopy or was this another meaningful way of saving money in cooking the burgers and sausages? With temperatures already soaring, weather wise, the angels above were keeping a very watchful eye on proceedings below. Masterfully those angels cooled down appending happenings with a gentle rain shower to the relief of us all.
John C, our new recruit as driver for the PVTA specialised bus, under the supervision of Ken & JFK, brought Club members adjacent to the marquee without any fault, just as if he had made this manoeuvre many times before. Well done John and welcome to this band of happy volunteers.
With serviettes tucked in various parts of attire the savoury smells of the cooking were brought to reality when heaped platters almost to overflowing with beef-burgers spare ribs drum sticks and sausages were brought to the tables. Numerous requests were made for seconds, which were duly granted.
Now who was first in the queue for desserts? Our Chairman, Michael who had witnessed the making of the trifle the night before, had armed himself with the biggest dessert spoon and plate one, can imagine. Little did he know Rita had made a second trifle after his departure the night previous without Sherry for those members that could not partake in alcohol dishes. Disappointment was portrayed on Michael's face knowing he chosen the wrong trifle. Orders were taken for "take-aways" for food that was left over, which the Ladies prepared and packed.
Michael welcomed our new member, Terry Williams of Letterston to the Club and wished him much happiness in a Club that offered sincere friendship and support throughout. Kept very quiet, wedding anniversary greetings for 53 years of marriage were extended to Rita and Viv from all the Club members.
Once again raffle prizes were plentiful, which aided Tony, Bryn and Michael's task of selling tickets that much easier. The Secretary apologised again for coming into the winners frame for a raffle prize.
A wonderful day was had by all
