By very kind permission of Stena Line Ltd, 4 committee members ventured the high seas on Saturday 2nd July 05 to partake in a successful fund-raising event onboard the Stena Europe, crossing to Rosslare & return. The welcome, hospitality and generosity given by passengers and staff alike were second to none. From the conception to completion of the event we offer our grateful thanks to Captain Ian Davies, Carle Milne, Gareth Williams & Mrs Corrina Davies, who made the task a most enjoyable, memorable and a profitable day for the Club.

The Fishguard & Goodwick Town Mayor Cllr Richard Davies & his Deputy Cllr Michael Lloyd waited to start the sponsored walk with umbrellas in the open position, unanimously agreed to postpone the planned walk for Tuesday 5th July 05 due to inclement weather. However the weather did not dampen the spirits and enjoyment of the 37 members. Viewing the special tea as arranged by the Fishguard Bay Hotel, with abundance of sandwiches & cakes, was indeed a sight for any hungry walker. Halfway through the tea the sun came out in all its glory and it was decided to complete the walk in reverse order, e.g. Fishguard Bay Hotel to Gary’s Fish-n-Chip shop. Therefore with Cllr Richard Davies & Cllr Michael Lloyd at the helm members started to muster at the new start point, and he was about to give the order “Cast Off”, and would you believe it, the heavens opened up again, so the walk has now been postponed until 20th September 05. The committee would like to thank everyone that has given their support and sponsorship to members. One Lady member from Trevine has acquired tremendous support, above all expectations.
During tea the Chairman Mr Michael Lewis welcomed the local dignitaries and their wives to the meeting wishing them an enjoyable afternoon in spite of the unsavoury weather conditions but hoped the cuisine was of a more palatable standing. Chairman thanked the Mayor & his entourage for their support to the Club and wished them much joy & happiness during their term in high office.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery were given to Len Langford who had been rushed into Withybush Hospital with suspected coronary problems.
Apologies were offered on behalf of the following: -
Both Lillian Evans & Rees, Mona James, Eluned Owen, Len & Sue Langford, Vaughan & Olivia Evans, Ann Goodman, Roger Hibben, Dorothy Heyday & Megan Lawrence.
Michael heralded the names of two new members to the Club, namely Mrs Eiddwen Morris & Mrs Wendy Owen who with her SRN skills will be an asset to the Club.
Grateful appreciation was given to management & staff of the Fishguard Bay Hotel for their very kind welcome and hospitality
The Mayor Cllr Richard Davies thanked the Club for the invitation to the event and was genuinely surprised of the enormity of its size. He continued that from the observed devotion and dedication given by the management team, radiated much happiness & harmony amongst its membership. He added how wonderful it was to witness the hard work the executive committee members ploughed into the Club and the excellent work the Club is undertaking for the community as a whole and wished every success for the future to which he offered his full support.
Deputy Mayor, Cllr Michael Lloyd echoed the Mayors sentiments adding a jovial verse and also his pledge to support to the Club.
Wendy announced next year’s respite holiday will take place at Weston-super-Mare, which was received with much applause.
It has been reported that statistics for the excellent raffle & membership donations cannot be included due the misplacement of the record book. If found please return to Mr Bryn Davies.
