On Thursday 7th July 05, Mrs Joan Dewdney of Towy View, Carmarthen made a donation of a “Sunrise Medical” electric scooter to the Stroke Club, which was gratefully received by our Chairman Mr Michael Lewis. We proudly announce with this current donation, our electric scooter fleet now stands at six vehicles. These scooters are an asset in bringing independence and mobility to both Stroke victim & their Carers.

Tuesday 19th July 05 members were transported for a “trip out” and lunch at Scolton Manor. The weather somewhat blustery but thankfully warm & dry, enabled members to enjoy the walks around Scolton Manor and its museum. With the smell of good home cooking coming from the kitchens members appetites were awakened to an excellent meal of beef or pork, followed by a variety of delicious desserts, tea or coffee. The President of the Club, Rita Rowles made comment on how encouraging it was to see the “Three wise men” so active in their waiting capabilities in helping the catering staff of Scolton Manor serve the tables.

During the luncheon the Chairman gave reports on the following members who are in hospital: -

Mona James is currently in the Heath Hospital, Cardiff. Graham Bindon is in Singleton Hospital Swansea & Len Langford is in Morriston Hospital. Lillian Evans was making slow but steady progress nursing her broken foot. Ann Goodman was unavoidably detained after a motor accident. Margaret Phillips (Trevine) was not enjoying the best of health and was under doctor’s orders to rest. Best wishes for speedy recoveries to better health were extended to them all.

Apologies for absence were given on behalf of the following members: -

Dorothy & Roger Beckwith, Roger Hibben, Sue Langford, Sylvia & Brian Dickin & Tommy Reynolds.

Birthday greetings were sung in harmony to Hazel Heyday & Mona James in her absence but never the less thought of during her hospital treatment. One of these Ladies now qualifies for her Senior Citizens Bus pass!

An invitation from the Haverfordwest Stroke Club, was heralded by Rita for Fishguard Stroke members to join with them on their trip to Ebbw Vale on Monday 8th August 05, which was accepted by many lady members.

Wendy gave further detail on next year’s respite holiday and suggested for those wishing to deposit any savings for the event might do so, to which cards will be issued.

Volunteers were requested to erect and operate the marquee at Letterston Carnival on Saturday 23rd July 05.

In the temporary absence of Brian Dickin our resident raffle enthusiast, the task was conducted by Bryn & Michael who managed to issue raffle tickets of the same colour but of different serial numbers causing double winning calls from many Club members. However the realisation of the raffle made £64.

The Chairman thanked the Management & catering staff of Scolton Manor for their warm welcome and generous hospitality.

Our next regular meeting will be held at St Teresa’s Convent Hall, Fishguard on Tuesday 2nd August 05, when we will have Mr Peter Stock, County Councillor as our Guest Speaker for the afternoon.
